“It is art that makes life, makes interest, makes importance”
Henry James

The Creative Process
Sarah finds her inspiration from many sources, from her travels, from literature, music, and nature. Her interest in languages has fed her curiosity about how people communicate, whether through oral tradition or by visual means. Often reference to these systems of conversing become metaphors for underlying themes in her work. In converting these symbols into a new realm of reality, her goal is to provide a catalyst for the audience to step outside the minutiae of everyday life and enable the viewer to see beyond the naked eye.
Born in Salisbury, NC, Sarah spent her childhood and college years there. After graduating from Catawba College with honors, she went on to graduate school at Vanderbilt University to study French. Different teaching and job positions have taken her to Bowling Green, KY, Neuchâtel Switzerland; Richmond, VA; Atlanta, GA; Phoenix, AZ; and Los Angeles, CA.
While in Los Angeles, where she lived for 20 years, Sarah
began formally studying art, fulfilling her lifetime passion and
dream. She studied at the Palos Verdes Art Center, Palos
Verdes, CA, and at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, CA. She
has also studied with internationally known artists such as
Virginia Cobbs, Mary Todd Beam, Carol Barnes, Carrie Brown,
Johathan Talbot, John Salminen, and Ernesto Valardi.
